Leigh's Es – Volume 222 Ministry Expansion 12/11/2018
Cultural Reversal! After experiencing learning to adapt in a very different culture for 22 years, I am watching others do the same! The Filipino group we are working with in Virginia has some very recent migrants. I remember being shocked by how HOT the heat could be in Manila. I use to often quote the Wicked Witch of the west, “I’m melting, I’m melting!” This past Sunday was one of the coldest days I have felt since I was in Saskatchewan, Canada, years ago! The look on some of the faces in the group as they described how cold it was made me think of how I must have looked trying to describe the heat! “Mainit” (HOT) was one of the first Tagalog words I learned…I heard many say “Malamig” (chilly, icy) this past Sunday.
CCF VA: This past Sunday was our 10th Worship where we looked at “The Heart Of Christmas.” This Sunday we will have our 11th Worship where we will look at the “Meditative Heart”; we also will enjoy another Lord’s Supper and a Christmas Fellowship. Our weekly Internet Discipleship each Thursday is going strong.
NY City: The Discipleship with the 2 leaders in NY is going well. We were on the internet together for almost 3 hours last week. They had asked DD and I if they could bring us up to NY on Dec 13-17. I am desirous to go, but I want it to be purposeful, we need to be good stewards and God values economy of effort. So after talking to them we agreed to come in January and set up meetings where I can share the dynamics of the small group Church, give training in learning to be a facilitator, and discuss the potential of becoming a Satellite.
The men I meet with on Tuesday nights have really become very committed, no matter the temperature, even if it is too cold to have a fire pit, we continue to meet. This week we are discussing Philippians 1 & 2
Personal: DD and I attended a fantastic Christmas Concert, as the evening ended I had to take her to the Urgent Care. She has a very infected ear and is on antibiotics, doing better but ear is still plugged. My Rheumatoid Arthritis is really flaring up in the cold. The humidity in Manila brought a lot of pain, but the cold adds an unusual amount of stiffness. Yet, DD and I are enjoying this season very much with the Lord.
GateWay Ministries: DD and I continue to lay the specifics of the financial need of the Mission only before the Lord. The need is still great, however we have received first time gifts from several in the Philippines and several of our regular supporters sent a double gift. God will supply as He sees fit and we will trust in Him! Yes it stretches our faith…but also grows it!
No matter your circumstance right now, make sure you take the time to Commune with our Lord this Christmas! Thank all of you for your love and support!
